Microsoft Indexing Service cross-site scripting
| ms-indexing-service-xss (28651) |
Description:
Microsoft Windows Web servers with the Microsoft Indexing Service enabled are vulnerable to cross-site scripting, caused by improper query validation. On systems that have an anonymous Web-based query interface enabled, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially-crafted message to inject malicious script into a dynamic Web page which would be executed in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the hosting Web site, once the page is viewed. An attacker could use this vulnerability to spoof Web content, obtain sensitive information or perform actions on the Web site as the victim.
Note: This vulnerability could also be exploited by an authentication local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system by sending a specially-crafted packet to the Indexing Service.
