ISC BIND DNSSEC RRset denial of service

bind-dnssec-rrset-dos (28745) The risk level is classified as LowLow Risk

Description:

ISC BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Daemon) is vulnerable to a denial of service caused by improper handling of DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) signed Resource Record Sets (RRsets). A remote attacker could send queries for SIG records to a recursive server to cause an assertion failure when more than one SIG RRset is returned or cause an assertion failure on authoritative servers serving RFC 2535 DNSSEC ZONE when queried for SIG records with multiple SIG RRsets. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities to cause the service to crash.

Consequences:

Denial of Service

Remedy:

For Apple Mac OS X:
Apply Apple Security Update 2007-005, available from the Apple Web site. See References.

Upgrade to the latest version of BIND (9.2.6-P1 or later) or (9.3.2-P1 or later), available from the Internet Software Consortium (ISC) Web site. See References.

For Debian GNU/Linux:
Refer to DSA-1172-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For Gentoo Linux:
Refer to Gentoo Linux Security Announcement GLSA 200609-11 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For NetBSD:
Refer to NetBSD Security Advisory 2006-022 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
