Symantec Automated Support Tool ActiveX buffer overflow
| symantec-support-tool-activex-bo (29363) |
Description:
Multiple Symantec products using the Automated Support Tool ActiveX control are vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper handling of malformed arguments. By hosting a malicious link on a Web site within an authorized domain, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the victim's system, if the attacker could persuade the victim to visit the site and follow the malicious link.
NOTE: The Automated Support Tool ActiveX control could be installed on systems by support personnel to detect problems on computers running any supported Symantec consumer product. Affected products listed are those that install the Automated Support Tool ActiveX control during the installation process.
