Computer Associates (CA) BrightStor ARCserve Backup Tape Engine RPC buffer overflow

brightstor-tapeengine-rpc-bo (31433) The risk level is classified as HighHigh Risk

Description:

Multiple Computer Associates (CA) BrightStor ARCserve backup products are vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the handler function for RPC opnum 0xCF in the Tape Engine service. By sending specially-crafted packets to the RPC interface on a vulnerable system, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with SYSTEM privileges.
