Description:

Adobe Acrobat Viewer is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the PDF ActiveX control (pdf.ocs). This ActiveX control is marked 'Safe for Scripting' in Internet Explorer. An attacker can overflow the pdf.ocx ActiveX control and execute arbitrary commands on the system running Adobe Acrobat Viewer and Internet Explorer.

Upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat (5.0.5 or later), available from the Adobe Acrobat Web site. See References.

As a workaround, modify a registry key for this ActiveX control to prevent it from being called or executed from Internet Explorer. Change the data value of the "Compatibility Flags" value to "00000400" in the following Registry Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}
