Microsoft Windows animated cursor (ANI) buffer overflow
| win-ani-code-execution (33301) |
Description:
Microsoft Windows is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking of animated cursor (ANI) files by the USER32.DLL file. By persuading a victim to open a specially-crafted animated cursor (ANI) file, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer to corrupt system memory and execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the victim. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by hosting the malicious file on a Web site or sending it to a victim as an email attachment.
