Lighttpd \r\n\r\n denial of service
| lighttpd-rnrn-dos (33671) |
Description:
Lighttpd is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by an error when parsing the "\r\n\r\n" sequence while aborting the client connection. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the server to enter into an infinite loop and consume all available CPU resources, resulting in a denial of service.
Platforms Affected:
- Debian, Debian Linux 4.0
- Gentoo, Linux
- lighttpd, lighttpd 1.4.12
- lighttpd, lighttpd 1.4.13
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Lighttpd (1.4.15 or later), available from the Lighttpd Web site. See References.
For Gentoo Linux:
Refer to GLSA 200705-07 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Debian GNU/Linux (lighttpd):
Refer to DSA-1303 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
Consequences:
Denial of Service

- CVE-2007-1869: lighttpd 1.4.12 and 1.4.13 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (cpu and resource consumption) by disconnecting while lighttpd is parsing CRLF sequences, which triggers an infinite loop and file descriptor consumption.
