MadWifi ieee80211_ioctl_getwmmparams denial of service
| madwifi-ieee80211ioctlgetwmmparams-dos (34453) |
Description:
MadWifi is vulnerable to a denial of service. By calling the ieee80211_ioctl_getwmmparams IO control using a negative index parameter, a local attacker could cause the application to crash or possibly obtain certain kernel memory content.
Platforms Affected:
- Canonical, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
- Canonical, Ubuntu 6.10
- Canonical, Ubuntu 7.04
- Gentoo, Linux
- Madwifi Driver, Madwifi Driver prior to 0.9.3.1
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2007 X86_64
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2007
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2007.1 X86_64
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2007.1
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2008.0 X86_64
- SuSE, SuSE Linux Desktop 10.0
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of MadWifi (0.9.3.1 or later), available from the MadWifi Web site. See References.
For Mandriva Linux (madwifi-source):
Refer to MDKSA-2007:132 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For Ubuntu Linux:
Refer to USN-479-1 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For SUSE Linux:
Refer to SUSE-SR:2007-014 for patch, upgrade, or suggested workaround information. See References.
For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
Consequences:
Denial of Service
