Description:

avast! antivirus is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking when parsing CAB files. By creating a specially-crafted CAB file, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system, if the attacker could persuade the victim to unpack the malicious file.

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of avast! antivirus (4.7.700 or later), available from the avast! antivirus Web site. See References.
