YaBB .vars file privilege escalation
| yabb-vars-privilege-escalation (34848) |
Description:
YaBB (Yet Another Bulletin Board) could allow a remote attacker to gain elevated privileges on the application caused by improper validation of user-supplied input when writing to the .vars file. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by injecting special characters into various form fields when creating a new profile or updating an existing user profile, which could allow the attacker to gain YaBB administrative privileges. Once administrative privileges are obtained, an attacker could further exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the Web server process by submitting modified templates.
