Microsoft Windows MFC ActiveX FindFile() buffer overflow

win-mfc-findfile-bo (36608) The risk level is classified as HighHigh Risk

Description:

The Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) library and multiple applications using the affected libraries are vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the FindFile method in MFC42.dll, MFC42u.dll, MFC71.dll, and MFC71u.dll. By sending an overly long first argument to any external application that uses the vulnerable library, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the system to crash.

Note: This vulnerability affects the HP All-in-One Series Web Release and HP Photo & Imaging Gallery hpqutil!ListFiles ActiveX control (hpqutil.dll), which uses the vulnerable MFC library.
