Firebird SQL process_packet() buffer overflow

Description:
Firebird SQL is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the process_packet() function. By sending an overly long request to TCP port 3050, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with SYSTEM privileges.

- Gentoo, Linux
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Firebird SQL (2.0.3 or later), available from the Firebird SQL Web site. See References.
