Description:

TIBCO SmartSockets is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the RTserver component. By sending a specially-crafted request containing size and copy-length values, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with SYSTEM privileges or cause a denial of service.

Note: This vulnerability also affects TIBCO RTworks and TIBCO Enterprise Message Service.

  • TIBCO, Enterprise Message Service (EMS) 4.0.0 - 4.4.1
  • TIBCO, RTworks prior to 4.0.4
  • TIBCO, SmartSockets 6.8.0

Remedy:

For TIBCO SmartSockets:
Upgrade to the latest version of TIBCO SmartSockets (6.8.1 or later), as listed in TIBCO Software Inc. Security Advisory January 15, 2008. See References.

For TIBCO RTworks:
Upgrade to the latest version of TIBCO RTworks (4.0.4 or later), as listed in TIBCO Software Inc. Security Advisory January 15, 2008. See References.
