Description:

RPM Remote Print Manager Service is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the RpmSrvc.exe. By sending a specially-crafted "Receive data file" LPD command containing an overly long data file name, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.

Platforms Affected:

  • Brooks Internet Software, RPM Remote Print Manager Elite 4.5.1.11 and prior
  • Brooks Internet Software, RPM Remote Print Manager Select 4.5.1.11 and prior

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of RPM Remote Print Manager Service (4.5.1.12 or later), available from Brooks Web site. See References.
