PCRE character class buffer overflow
| pcre-characterclass-bo (40505) |
Description:
The PCRE (Perl Compatible Regular Expressions) library is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking when processing character classes. By sending an overly long character class containing codepoints larger than 255, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application using the affected library to crash.
Platforms Affected:
- Canonical, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
- Canonical, Ubuntu 6.10
- Canonical, Ubuntu 7.04
- Canonical, Ubuntu 7.10
- Debian, Debian Linux 3.1
- Debian, Debian Linux 4.0
- Mandriva, Linux 2007.1
- Mandriva, Linux 2007.1 X86_64
- Mandriva, Linux 2008.0 X86_64
- Mandriva, Linux 2008.0
- Philip Hazel, PCRE prior to 7.6
Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of PCRE (7.6 or later), available from the PCRE Web site. See References.
Consequences:
