user-ppp command_Expand_Interpret() buffer overflow
| userppp-commandexpandinterpret-bo (41034) |
Description:
The user-ppp command, as used in FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD, is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the command_Expand_Interpret() function. By sending a specially-crafted string via the user-ppp command, a local attacker with network group privileges granted could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with root privileges or cause the application to crash.
