Apple Mac OS X NSFileManager privilege escalation

macos-nsfilemanager-priv-escalation (41299) The risk level is classified as HighHigh Risk

Description:

Apple Mac OS X could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by a race condition in the NSFileManager in the Foundation component. NSFileManager creates world-writable directories and restricts permissions later when a recursive file copying operation is performed. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability and modify the directory to interrupt another user's operations and gain elevated privileges on the system.

Platforms Affected:

  • Apple, Mac OS X Server 10.4.11

Remedy:

Apply Security Update 2008-002, available from the Apple Web site. See References.
