Multiple Mozilla products HTTP Referrer spoofing
| mozilla-http-referrer-spoofing (41449) |
Description:
Multiple Mozilla products, including Firefox and SeaMonkey could allow a remote attacker to conduct spoofing attacks, caused by the improper handling of HTTP "Referer:" headers. By sending a specially-crafted request with Basic Authentication credentials containing an empty username value which causes the browser to remove leading characters from the referrer hostname, a remote attacker could bypass cross-site request forgery filters and spoof the HTTP Referer (sic) value.

- CVE-2008-1238: Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.13 and SeaMonkey before 1.1.9, when generating the HTTP Referer header, does not list the entire URL when it contains Basic Authentication credentials without a username, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass application protection mechanisms that rely on Referer headers, such as with some Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) mechanisms.
