Blackboard Academic Suite searchtext cross-site scripting

Description:
Blackboard Academic Suite is vulnerable to cross-site scripting, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input by the viewCatalog.pl and the announcement.pl script. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability using the searchText or the data__announcements___pk1_pk2__subject parameter in a specially-crafted URL to execute script in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the hosting Web site, once the URL is clicked. An attacker could use this vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials.

Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Blackboard Academic Suite (6.3.1.683, 7.0.404.58, 7.1.467.35, 7.2.383.45, 7.3.216.0, or 8.0.184.0 or later), available from the Blackboard Academic Suite Web site. See References.
