Description:

Multiple BSD systems are vulnerable to multiple integer overflows, caused by improper bounds checking by the strfmon() function in the libc library. By sending a specially-crafted value containing malicious format specifiers, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the system to crash.

Remedy:

For NetBSD:
Apply the fix, available from the NetBSD CVS Repository. See References.

For Apple Mac OS X:
Apply Security Update 2008-008 or upgrade to the latest version of Mac OS X (10.5.6 or later), available from the Apple Web site. See References.
