HP Network Node Manager ovspmd.exe buffer overflow
| hp-nnm-ovspmd-bo (41737) |
Description:
HP Network Node Manager is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by ovspmd.exe. By sending an overly long request to TCP port 8886, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with elevated privileges or cause the application to crash.
Platforms Affected:
- HP, Network Node Manager 7.53 and prior
Remedy:
Refer to HPSBMA02338 SSRT080024, SSRT080041 rev.2 for patch, upgrade or suggested workaround information. See References.

- CVE-2008-1842: Integer signedness error in ovspmd.exe in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (OV NNM) 8.01, and 7.53 and earlier, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) or execute arbitrary code via a long request to TCP port 8886 that begins with a certain negative integer, which passes a signed comparison and triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.
