Microsoft Index Server webhits.dll reveals source of ASP files

Description:

Microsoft Index Server could expose the source code of Active Server Pages (ASP files) and other server-side Web files. A vulnerability in the webhits.dll file allows a remote attacker to view the unprocessed source code of certain server-side files by requesting a specially-crafted URL that includes a %20 after the file name.

Platforms Affected:

  • Microsoft, Index Server 2.0

Remedy:

Obtain the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-025, MS01-033, MS01-041, MS01-44, MS02-001 or MS02-018. See References.

For Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition:
Microsoft originally provided a patch for this vulnerability in MS00-006, but it has been superseded by the patch released with MS01-033, and then superseded by the patch released with MS02-018.

For Windows NT 4.0:
Microsoft originally provided patches for this vulnerability in MS00-006, MS01-025, MS01-033, MD01-041 and MS02-001, but they have been superseded by the Security Roll-up patch released with MS02-018. See References.

For Windows 2000:
