Linux kernel sys_utimensat() denial of service
| linux-kernel-sysutimensat-dos (42342) |
Description:
Linux kernel is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by improper permissions checking by the sys_utimensat() function. By invoking the function with both times set to UTIME_NOW or UTIME_NOW and UTIME_OMIT, a local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the kernel to crash.
*CVSS:

Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of Linux kernel (2.6.25.3 or later), available from the Linux Kernel Archives Web site. See References.

- CVE-2008-2148: The utimensat system call (sys_utimensat) in Linux kernel 2.6.22 and other versions before 2.6.25.3 does not check file permissions when certain UTIME_NOW and UTIME_OMIT combinations are used, which allows local users to modify file times of arbitrary files, possibly leading to a denial of service.
