WordNet searchwn buffer overflow
| wordnet-searchwn-bo (42378) |
Description:
WordNet is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the searchwn function. By sending an overly long string using a command line option, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash.
Platforms Affected:
- Debian, Debian Linux 4.0
- Gentoo, Linux
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2008.0 X86_64
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2008.0
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2008.1 X86_64
- MandrakeSoft, Mandrake Linux 2008.1
- Princeton University, WordNet 2.0
- Princeton University, WordNet 2.1
- Princeton University, WordNet 3.0
