Apple Mac OS X Launch Services code execution

Description:
Apple Mac OS X could allow a remote attacker to execute code on the system, caused by a race condition error in the download validation of symbolic links within the Launch Services component. By persuading a victim to visit a specially-crafted Web site, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability and execute arbitrary code on the system. This vulnerability could be exploited automatically if the "Open safe files" option is enabled in Safari.

Remedy:
Apply Apple Security Update 2008-004 or upgrade to the latest version of Mac OS X (10.5.4 or later), available from the Apple Web site. See References.
