Linux Kernel open.c privilege escalation
| linux-kernel-open-privilege-escalation (45539) |
Description:
The Linux Kernel could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by an error in open.c. Setuid and setgid bits are not removed when there is a write to a file. By creating an executable file in a setgid directory using the truncate or ftruncate function in conjunction with memory-mapped I/O, an attacker could gain the privileges of a different group, obtain certain information, and possibly launch further attacks against the system.
