XFree86 -xkbmap parameter buffer overflow

Description:
XFree86 is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the X server. By sending a long -xkbmap parameter containing 2100 characters or more to the X server, a local attacker can overflow the buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with root privileges.

Remedy:
Upgrade to the latest version of XFree86 (4.0.1 or later), available from the XFree86 Web site. See References.
For Red Hat Linux 6.2:
Upgrade to the latest version of Xfree86 (3.3.6-29 or later), as listed in RHSA-2001:071-05. See References.
For Red Hat Linux 7.0 and 7.1:
Upgrade to the latest version of Xfree86 (3.3.6-38 or later), as listed in RHSA-2001:071-05. See References.
For FreeBSD ports collection prior to 2000-06-09:
Upgrade to the latest ports package dated 2000-06-09 or later or upgrade to the latest version of Xfree86 (4.0.1 or later), as listed in FreeBSD, Inc. Security Advisory FreeBSD-SA-00:27. See References.
