MetaWeb Server with MetaIP and Sendmail could allow a remote dot attack
| metaweb-server-dot-attack (5231) |
Description:
MetaInfo MetaWeb Server with MetalP could allow a remote attacker to traverse directories on the server by using "dot dot" (/../) sequences. The MetaWeb server is included with both the MetaIP and Sendmail products to handle remote administration through Web-based management interfaces. The Web server allows a user to configure a directory on the server as the Web root, but it fails to restrict users to this root directory. A remote attacker can use "dot dot" (/../) notation to escape to higher directory levels and retrieve files on the Web server with file names that the attacker knows or can guess.
Platforms Affected:
- MetaInfo, MetaInfo MetaIP 3.1
- MetaInfo, MetaInfo Sendmail 2.0
- MetaInfo, MetaInfo Sendmail 2.5
- MetaInfo, MetaWeb Server
Remedy:
Disable remote administration on the MetaWeb server.
Consequences:
Gain Access
