slrn newsreader wrapping/unwrapping buffer overflow
| slrn-wrapping-bo (6213) |
Description:
The slrn newsreader in some Linux distributions is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the wrapping/unwrapping functions. By sending a message with a long header, a remote attacker can overflow a buffer and crash the system. If arbitrary code is embedded in the message, it may be possible to execute code on the system. The wrapping function is not enabled by default, but it can be enabled by modifying the configuration or pressing W while viewing a message.
