Caldera OpenServer lpforms buffer overflow

Description:
SCO OpenServer is vulnerable to a buffer overflow in the lpforms program. By default, lpforms is installed suid bin. By using command line arguments and sending lpforms a string containing 6240 characters or more, an attacker can overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with privileges of bin.
Platforms Affected:
- SCO, SCO OpenServer 5.0.6
Remedy:
Apply the appropriate patch for your system, as listed in SCO System Security Enhancement (SSE) SSE072B 11-Apr-2001. See References.
As a workaround, chmod -s /opt/K/SCO/Unix/5.0.6Ga/usr/lib/lpforms.
