Description:

Rpmdrake, included with Linux-Mandrake, could allow an attacker to launch a symlink attack. The rpmdrake program creates insecure temporary files in the /tmp directory. An attacker could use this vulnerability to create a symbolic link in the /tmp directory to overwrite or corrupt files on the local file system.

Remedy:

For Mandrake Linux 8.0:
Upgrade to the latest version of rpmdrake (1.3-52.1 or later), as listed in MandrakeSoft Security Advisory MDKSA-2001:043 : rpmdrake. See References.
