Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) capabilities allows a local attacker to gain privileges
| lids-capabilities-gain-root (7831) |
Description:
Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) for Linux kernel could allow a local attacker to execute arbitrary code using LD_PRELOAD to determine the capabilities of any program and possibly gain elevated privileges. In addition, if a program has been given CAP_SYS_RAWIO or CAP_SYS_MODULE capabilities, a local attacker can disable LIDS and gain access to any file on the system.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
For Linux kernel 2.2.x:
Apply the LIDS security patch 0.10.1-2.2.20 to LIDS version 0.10.1, as listed in LIDS Advisory 1. See References.
For Linux kernel 2.4.x:
Upgrade to the latest version of LIDS (1.1.1pre2-2.4.16 or later), as listed in LIDS Advisory 1. See References.
