IRIX xfsmd allows remote attacker to execute commands
| irix-xfsmd-execute-commands (9402) |
Description:
The xfsmd daemon in SGI IRIX is installed and running by default. A vulnerability regarding the lack of filtering for shell metacharacters in the popen() function (xfsmd) could allow a remote attacker to embed arbitrary commands in user-supplied arguments to the popen() function to execute arbitrary commands on the system with root privileges.
Consequences:
Gain Privileges
Remedy:
The xfsmserv product is no longer supported. Disable or uninstall the xfsmd daemon, as listed in SGI Security Advisory 20020605-01-I. See References.
