Multiple platform spoofed IGMP report denial of service
| igmp-spoofed-report-dos (9436) |
Description:
Multiple operating systems using the Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) are vulnerable to a denial of service attack. A remote attacker from within a multicast group could deny services to any other host within that group by sending an IGMP membership report to the victim's IP address instead of the multicast router's IP address.
Consequences:
Denial of Service
Remedy:
Apply the appropriate patch for your system. See References.

- CVE-2002-2185: The Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) allows local users to cause a denial of service via an IGMP membership report to a target's Ethernet address instead of the Multicast group address, which causes the target to stop sending reports to the router and effectively disconnect the group from the network.
