Linux dump flock() /etc/dumpdates denial of service

Description:
The dump backup utility included with various Linux and open-source BSD distributions is vulnerable to a denial of service attack. A local attacker could create a file lock on the /etc/dumpdates file or possibly other dump files to cause the dump utility to be prevented from executing.
